Bradford Uni. Careers Fair Reflection

Yesterday, which was the 24th February 2010. I attended A careers fair at Bradford University. We arrived their just before 11:00am and was registered. We attended a lecture by Phillip Charles who runs Pipeline Productions. This segment of the day was considered a workshop setion. Phillip stressed how important it was to get noticed in the art department of the world. He suggested that we participate in voluntary work. This form of working will get you noticed and get your name out their which is good publicity but quite frestrating for many as it is commonly done without any source of income. Phillip really explained in detail what he was all about and his progression into the work he has done and shares with others. His job as a Rapper and teacher reflects in the presentation he had for us. He explained that he tries to reach out to the community and bring the positive reaction and attitudes out of people. He was very musically talented as he performed a freestyle and showed a great vibe and joy in what he does for a living. This lecture carried through to about 12:00pm/12:30pm and was very informal.

We also attended another workshop which was a great experience. The workshop was mainly focused on creating and animating a short film clip that will be catching and innovitive. The team consisted of myself, Phillip, Kieron & Dom. A team of 4 was assembled by others and put to the task of coming up with ideas for a mini production. We were required to use play dough, camera, tripod and a laptop to ipload the images and process them to make the images fit together and seem put together. The idea we had was a to create a virtual ping-pong game in action and was quite fun to get the dough pieces made and get them situated on the screen and to make the animation we made slight adjustments to the dough pieces before we would take the camera shot. We had roughly 50 mins to put something together and have on show. The camera we had used was a Samsung SM-58. My role in the animation was quite important as apart from coming up with certain ideas I made the clay pieces and suggested their positioning in the animation. We also incorporated Pac-Man intot the animationa s he chases the ball and then Pac-Man gets chased by a Ghost which makes it quite comical. We used the program called "MonkeyJam" to piece together all the snapshots. It was a usefull and free downloadable animation program that allows you to put together cool little animations. During the short film animation we used "Microsoft Paint" as the backdrop of the animation as the white background of the laptop made the coloured play dough pieces stand out. The ball of the ping-pong game was drawn in paint which mad it simple to move (drag) to the desired spot. The entire animation was fun and intersting and helped our communication skills.
